I know this entry is long overdue, but I promise I did try to update once before. I typed up a nice little entry mid-summer, and of course my computer just lost it. I was so frustrated that I just left it. So, I apologize for leaving all of you long-distance friends out of the loop all this time!
The first thing that happened since the last entry was graduation. Everything went really well and it was great to see my family and several friends who came from out of town. It's still hard to believe that I actually graduated from med school. It's funny all those moments that you picture happening to you over and over, and then when you're actually there it just seems so surreal. I cried when the big-wig said, "I hereby confer upon you the degree of medical doctor." I think it was just the culmination of God's promises when He called me into the medical field. He knew I would make it to that day--His faithfulness is neverending!!
The day after my graduation, we (my family) all headed down to Centralia to see my brother and sister graduate from high school. Sarah got a volleyball and track scholarship to John A. Logan Community College and so far things are going well for her. She is getting play a ton of volleyball and I think (?) she attends her classes! :) Reuben headed to SIUE for the next couple of years, with hopes that he can transfer to a film school in CA once all his gen eds are out of the way. I can't believe my little bro and sis are off on their own! (Have you caught the drift that I wasn't quite ready to be a grown up?!)
The day after that graduation, we moved! Needless to say, it was a busy weekend! We packed up the house (with much needed help from friends and family!) and headed to Grand Rapids with my mom, Eric's brother Marc, and Marc's girlfriend Kathy. We arrived about 1am and crashed into bed. The next day we got everything out of the truck and then the whirlwind of projects began! We spent the next month, pretty much every day from 7am-midnight working hard on fixing up the house. We completely re-did the kitchen with new appliances, repainted cabinets, new hardware on the cabinets, all new light fixtures, and on and on. We painted the dining room also and got some new furniture. Our next priority was the guest bedroom which got a new coat of paint and decorations. Toward the end of the month we got around to redecorating the downstairs bathroom. All through this time, we were also working hard to get the pool clean. After about 16 gallons of chlorine, we finally got our pool sparkling and clear!
We hosted all the pediatric residents at a welcome picnic outside. Eric had to do quite a few deck repairs, but I think everyone enjoyed themselves and the kids loved the pool!
I started work June 20-something, so the work on the house came to a halt for the most part. Eric continued his work with more subtle things like rewiring and hooking up all his electronics. :) Work for me started with working on the general pediatrics floors for the first two months. This meant I spent my time admitting sick kids and then taking care of them until they left. I was on call every fourth night, which meant I spent the night at the hospital and didn't get a lot of sleep! It was pretty exhausting, but I really enjoyed my time on the floor and am still considering being a hospitalist as a career. That would mean I would do that same kind of work as my whole job rather than seeing patients in a clinic. I've just started work in the nursery where I take care of generally healthy babies all day! It's a much better schedule and much easier work--of course everytime I see a mom smiling at her baby I get all teary cause it's so cute!
Eric has a job too! For those of you who haven't heard the story...Our house in Rockford is two doors down from the UMC in town, and when we bought the house Eric sent a letter to them, just letting them know we would be their new neigbors and to let us know if they heard of any music positions opening. They wrote back that they had just hired someone to be their choir director but they would let us know if they knew of any openings. In mid-May our church in Springfield had a little goodbye party for us. We spent about 10 minutes at the beginning with our dear friends praying for us and especially for Eric's future, that he might find a job. About 10 minutes after we finished praying, Eric got a call from RUMC saying that things had changed and they now had an opening for a music minister and would he please send a resume! After several weeks and interviews, He got the job! YAY!! So, he's the chancel and bell choir director. They started rehearsals last week and things seem to be going well so far. I think he's really enjoying himself. :)
So I think that's all the news! We are absolutely loving living in Rockford. There are tons of great little festivals and we've even been kayaking! We'd love to have more visitors! We are slow at making friends, but my coworkers are really great and all the church activities start next week, so hopefully we'll be a little more social soon! :)
There are pictures of the house under the "House" bar on the left. We just got a new digital camera, so hopefully we'll have some new pics up soon! Love to all and God bless!
