House 11
From the last house we drove about a block to the other Rockford house our realtor had found.
After seeing this house we decided to place an offer and keep the previous home as a backup. Our realtor cancelled the rest of our appointments for the day.
This is an 1870s house; we haven't been able to pin down a name for the style. It's a house. It's not really a farmhouse, it's not really Victorian, it's not really a craftsman. It has 2000+ square feet, four bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The entire first floor is hardwood. The kitchen is large with gobs of pantry space, and there is a three-car attached garage.
Did I mention the inground pool?
Of course, to get a house like this in our price range, it needs some work. The floors need to be redone, and practically the whole house needs paint. The furnace is 25 years old. But, the house comes with a one-year home warranty, so hopefully the furnace will conk out in the next twelve months. The roof is one year new.
This house is on a double lot about two blocks from downtown Rockford, and shares the block with Rockford United Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church of Rockford (both visible in the 1880 town drawing). Have a look at the annotated map for a key.
